Finchbird on indie art & design
As a small child, Designer Ben Finch was an avid collector. Model aeroplanes, stones, shells, coins and objects in small boxes were highly prized treasure. He recognised that people's possessions were imbued with their life stories and as he grew older, he realized that he was creating his life story through his own pieces and collections.
Over the years Ben had a recurring vision of himself working at a bench, surrounded by tools and drawings. This vision drove him in his quest to create objects that would be collected and prized by the people who possessed them - pieces that would become companions as well as souvenirs of the wearer's life.
Today, the little boy's dream has become reality. Having gained an Honours Degree from The University of Sydney in Jewellery and Object Design, Ben now works from his Sydney studio to create the Finchbird range.
Ben finds inspiration in nature, clean organic shapes and lines, leaves and new growth. He feels privileged to create pieces that become part of the wearer's life story.
